Two Of Hearts (Three Of A Kind #2) Page 15
“Wow! Seriously? You’re awake!” Jason shook his head in amazement, walking to the edge of the fence to talk to me.
I nodded and smiled. “Yup, told ya I’d be here. As long as I’m armed with coffee, I’m good! Want a sip?”
“Nah, it’s too hot.” He gave me the same gaze that he did last night at the bar, right before I drank myself into oblivion. My stomach was doing flips, and I instinctively reached over the fence and placed my hand on his arm and gazed back.
“So, Wilder, are you going to be rude and not introduce me to this pretty girl?” The man he’d been speaking to just moments ago said as he approached us.
I let out a laugh, taking my attention from Jason and focusing on the man. “I’m Carrie.” I held out my hand and a grin stretched across his face.
“Oh Carrie! You’re Jason’s stepsister?”
I hated that word, especially when it pertained to Jason and me. I immediately felt like I was being incestuous for having the feelings that I was for Jason, particularly as of late. “Well, my mom is married to his dad.” Yes, Carrie, that would qualify you as being his stepsister. But for some reason when I phrased it that way, it didn’t seem as bad. Not to mention, I technically knew and crushed on Jason before my mom and his dad even got together, so that had to count for something.
“Well, I’m just happy to see that he left some of the pretty ones for the rest of us. I’m Matt.”
“It’s nice to meet you.” I smiled.
“Are you sticking around for the game?” he asked.
“Yeah, I am.”
“Cool.” His smile grew bigger as I stared at him a little longer than I should have. His front side definitely matched his back side, but he still wasn’t as handsome as Jason.
“I’ll hopefully talk to you later, Carrie. I’m up next.”
I nodded. “See ya.”
Jason rolled his eyes when he walked away. “Don’t even, Carrie.”
“Don’t even what?”
“Get any ideas about him. He’s a total douche bag when it comes to chicks.”
I tilted my head, trying my hardest to hold in my laughter. “Now, what would make you think that I was getting any ideas about him?”
His smile deepened. “Umm…did you forget? I know you almost as well as you know yourself.”
I smiled back. “Well, if that’s true, then you should know….I hate being referred to as a chick! Now go impress me on the field.”
“You got it.” He raised his eyebrow at me and walked away.
“And, so do you,” I murmured when my eyes shifted to his butt once again. I cleared my throat and walked away when I realized the lady standing next to me had overheard and was snickering over my comment.
The hot sun was beating down on my neck, but I didn’t care. I was having a good time, shouting from the stands like a fool for my favorite player. Thanks to his skills and a few of his other teammates, the Police Department won – 9 to 6.
Once the game ended, I stood around wanting to say goodbye to Jason. “Hey, Carrie!” I turned to find Matt approaching me, looking mighty sexy drenched in sweat.
“Oh, hey!” I responded, shifting my sunglasses from the top of my head to my eyes.
“Ummm….a bunch of us guys are going out for some drinks and grabbing something to eat. You want to come?”
I looked at my watch. “Drinks? It’s only eleven forty.” I giggled.
“Well, it’s never too early for drinking.” He joked.
“Well, thanks anyway, but I’m gonna have to pass. I filled my drink quota last night for the next two weeks.”
He moved closer. “Well that sucks.”
“Why is that?” I creased my eyebrows in confusion.
“Because now I’m gonna have to wait two weeks to ask you to go out with me.”
I let out a loud laugh, just as Jason approached us. “Hey, Carrie. Are we hanging out today?”
“Oh….umm. Yeah, sure.” He took me a little by surprise. I wasn’t sure if he meant it or if he was asking just to break up the conversation I was having with Matt.
“Well, can I at least get your number?” Matt asked.
“Yeah, sure. Why not?”
I rattled it off while he typed it in his phone.
Jason was not looking pleased at all by the exchange of digits. He shook his head at me and let out a long annoyed breath. “You know what, I’m kinda tired. I’m just gonna head home and crash.”
“Wait – Jas!” I shouted as I watched him walk away.
What just happened? Was he really that pissed just because I gave this guy my number?
“Okay, I’ll give you a call once your two week hiatus is over?”
What the heck? This guy couldn’t take me out unless there was alcohol involved? That alone was putting up a red flag to me, not to mention the way he was checking me out was making me a little uncomfortable. I didn’t like to prejudge people, especially in the profession I was in, but this guy was falling right into the typical stereotype that a lot of women formed about cops. He was definitely on an ego trip and liked to use the fact that he carried a badge and a gun to impress the ladies. Sadly, that worked on some women, but not this one.
“Actually, don’t bother.” He creased his eyebrows in confusion. “I just came out of a long relationship with someone, and I’m not ready to start dating yet.”
He held up his hand. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, who said anything about dating?”
Was this guy serious? “Okay, how is this then? I’m not ready to go out, get drunk, and be fed some bullshit lines by some guy who only wants one thing. Let me break that down even further for you; I’m not ready to start fucking yet.” I ignored the laughter of some of the guys that were in earshot as I walked away.
“Damn, Matt! You got told!” One of the guys shouted.
I was furious as I got in my car and pulled out of the parking lot. Angry at the egoistical jerk who clearly only used women for one thing, angry at myself for starting to fall into his trap, and angry at Jason for not trusting my judgment and storming off.
Without even realizing it, I was on Jason’s front porch pounding on his door. My patience was wearing thin and when he didn’t answer right away, I began to knock harder.
I had to catch my breath when he opened the door shirtless and with the top button on his pants undone. “God, Carrie give me a minute, I was just getting in the shower.”
I pushed my way in. “What the hell is your problem? I dragged my hungover ass out of bed to watch you play baseball….which by the way, I hate! Then you go storming off without even saying goodbye.”
He rolled his eyes at me, which pissed me off even more. “Because sometimes for someone who is so smart you can be so unbelievably stupid!” he shouted.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Carrie, do you really think that you found your future husband in that loser? I’m gonna tell you what he’s gonna do. After he goes out with you, he’s gonna tell all the guys at work exactly what happened, embellishing it even more to his benefit and then you will never hear from him again!”
“You know what? You are such an ass sometimes! I know what guys like him are about, and I don’t need you coming to my rescue each time I’m around one of them!”
“Oh, what the hell is that supposed to mean, Carrie, huh?” I stood there in surprise. Jason and I never fought. This was a first and even though I didn’t like it, I was kind of turned on by it. I’m sure his hard rock-hard chest only inches from my face and seeing him in those form fitting baseball pants, knowing that the bulge that was sticking out was all him after accidentally getting a sneak peek, was only adding to the desire.
I softened my voice a bit. “It just means…I’m a big girl, Jas. I can use my own judgment.”
He nodded in defeat. “Well, let me know how that turns out. I’m going to take a shower.” He walked off toward the bathroom and I followed behind him.
“I told him not to call me.”
r /> “What?” I could hear the water running as he turned around once he reached the bathroom door.
I inched closer to him until we were both standing inside the bathroom. “You see, Jason, I’m not so dumb after all.”
“Well, I’m happy to hear that,” he replied, with a hint of sarcasm to his voice.
I couldn’t stand there any longer and stare at him, wanting him as badly as I did. I knew I had two choices: walk out the door and regret what could have happened, like I had done so many other times, or take the chance and let him know how I was really feeling and hope he was feeling the same way. We both stood there, silently staring at each other and without even thinking, I pushed him into the shower with my fingers raking through his hair and my tongue in his mouth. When he kissed me back with the same intensity, I didn’t regret my choice. We couldn’t get enough of each other as the warm water cascaded over us. I raised my arms and he lifted my shirt over my head with ease before reaching behind me and unhooking my bra, throwing it onto the shower floor. His hands reached under my skirt and his fingers found their way inside me. I threw my head back as his tongue moved down my neck, finding its way to my breast, taking each one in his mouth. I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to feel him inside me. My hands wandered under his pants, and my want for him intensified when I felt the fullness of his erection. I unzipped his pants and gave them a tug. “Jason, please.” I looked up at him as the water beaded from his face. He shook his head, adding to my frustration. “But I want you so –”
He put his finger over my lips to stop me from talking. “Not here.” I creased my eyebrows in confusion just as he smiled, lifting me up and carrying me into his bedroom.
He placed me down and we kissed once more. Beads of water dripped from our soaking wet bodies onto his bedroom floor as his tongue moved down my neck and past my breasts. He got down on his knees and continued to make a downward descent with his lips to my stomach and then my upper thigh, lifting my skirt, and moving closer to the part of my body that was yearning for him so much. My hands feverishly ran through his hair, never feeling such a buildup of need as I did for him at that moment. He stared up at me through his long lashes and beautiful eyes, and I was overcome with emotion. This was really happening after years of wanting this and telling myself it would never be possible.
“I’m glad Brett fucked up with you, Carrie, and maybe I’m even glad that he hurt you. I needed to know that he wasn’t perfect. I needed to know that he wasn’t the one for you. I know it’s wrong to come out and say it, just like I know it’s wrong to be feeling the way I am about you. But I think about you every fuckin’ minute of the day. I look at you and all I could think about is –” he shook his head as if he was trying to find the right words. “When you asked me if I regretted that night and not being your first.” I stared down at him, absorbed in every word he was saying. “I lied, Carrie. I totally lied. It took everything inside of me to turn you down that night.”
I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer. The cute teenage boy I had loved from so long ago was now a strong beautiful man. There was nothing holding us back anymore, Brett was out of my life and Ashley was out of his. We were no longer teenagers; we were adults who were able to make our own decisions about life. He stood up and wiped the teardrop that was rolling down my face before pressing his forehead against mine. “I always knew I loved you. It just took me a while to realize I’m in love with you.”
Something special passed between us at that moment. Something deep inside my heart that I had never felt before, but staring into Jason’s eyes, I knew that he was feeling it to.
“I love you too, Jason. You were the reason that I couldn’t move to California. I was lying to myself the whole time I was with him, always wishing I could be with you,” I whispered, pulling him into another kiss. He took a seat on his bed while I stood in front of him. I pulled off my skirt and panties and was standing before him completely naked, feeling totally at ease while he examined every inch of my body. He stood up and his hands moved down my bare back. “You are absolutely beautiful,” he whispered.
I kissed his bare chest, remembering all the times that I had seen him shirtless and would secretly imagine doing this. My hands reached the waistband of his pants. “Now?” I pleaded. He let out a light chuckle and nodded. I gave them a tug, finding that they were extra hard to get off with being soaking wet. He helped me out, removing them completely along with his boxers. We stood together with our bodies pressed against each other. There were no longer any barriers between us. My hand wandered over his erection and he exhaled deeply. This was so surreal to me. So many times I would imagine this moment when I was alone in my mind, never thinking it would become a reality. He lay me down on his bed and hovered over me, pinning my arms above my head, teasing my breast with his tongue before finally filling my desire of needing him inside me. The look in his eyes as he gazed down at me was an image I would remember for the rest of my life. It was as if I could see deep inside his soul, and I was certain he was feeling all of the same emotions as me.
He wrapped his arms around me, creating a slow and steady rhythm while moving in and out of me. My hands moved up and down his back tracing every muscle as our tongues collided. He rolled over and pulled me on top of him, making sure our bodies never disengaged. I wrapped my legs around his waist when he sat up and we began to move together in perfect unison. I threw my head back, enjoying each and every second as his tongue trailed down my neck. Being here with him and feeling the emotions coursing through my veins, it felt like the very first time. My breathing became more rapid as did his. I could feel my body revving up and reaching its breaking point in a way that it never had before. I pulled him closer and let out a gentle cry of pleasure as my body constricted around him at the same time that he lost control inside me. We were both breathless as we lay down on his bed. His arms were wrapped around me and my head rested on his chest as I listened to the beating of his heart.
I thought I knew everything about Jason, but the reality was I only knew part of him. For the first time ever, I saw another side of him. The warmth of his beautiful, naked body pressed against mine. The gentleness of his touch. The contentment I felt upon feeling him inside of me. The way his eyes lit up in an array of colors just before he lost it completely. The way he made me feel like I was the only woman he’d ever made love to, and the sound of his voice when he whispered, “I love you” as he held me in his arms afterward. These were all things I had never known about Jason Wilder, and today I was lucky enough to get to experience each and every one of them with him.

Jason
It was my first day off in over two weeks; in addition to working my normal schedule, I was racking up every overtime shift I could get, which didn’t leave much time for Carrie. We’d both been so busy and our work schedules clashed, and I was finding that I was missing her like crazy. We were spending today at my Dad and Melanie’s where they were having a big Fourth of July barbeque. We had both agreed to not tell anyone in our family yet, so I tried my hardest to act normal when I saw Carrie and Gia in the backyard. Giving them both a kiss on the cheek, fighting with everything in me to not get Carrie alone and feel every inch of her body. Just seeing her made me realize just how much I missed her.
“Please tell me you’re not back with Ashley again?” Gia asked.
I shook my head.
“Good! I was almost afraid to ask. Sorry, Jas, she was a bitch!” Gia always told you like it was, like it or not, and I knew her feelings were the same as Carrie’s when it came to Ashley. “I’m sure you’ve got the ladies lining up at your door now that you’re single.” Carrie choked on the sip of water that she had just taken, causing Gia to look at her strangely. I looked away when her eyes shifted back to me as if she was catching on.
“So, Gia, how’s Jasper?” Carrie asked, trying to create a diversion.
Carrie knew her sister all too well. It worked like a charm. “Oh, Carrie. You have no
idea how wonderful sex is with him.” She stopped herself and looked at me, waving her hand in her usual dismissive way. “Oh, you’re like my brother, you’re allowed to hear this.” I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to. “His thingy looks totally different.”
“How?” Carrie asked.
“It doesn’t have the…. you know. It doesn’t look like it’s wearing a helmet.”
I widened my eyes, wishing I wasn’t privy to this conversation.
Carrie let out a loud laugh at my reaction. “Gia, I think you mean he’s not circumcised?” Carrie questioned, just as I lifted my hot dog up to my mouth.
“Ah, man! That’s just wrong.” I shouted.
“Exactly! It kinda looks like that,” Gia said, pointing to my hot dog. “But much bigger!” She and Carrie both began to howl with laughter.
“I just totally lost my appetite.”
“Aww….Jas, it’ll be okay!” Carrie teased, as she moved closer and rubbed my back in a very indiscreet way.
Gia narrowed her eyes at the two of us. “Umm….is there something going on here that I should know about?”
Carrie quickly moved away. “What? No. You just traumatized poor Jason with your penis talk.”
She raised her eyebrow and knowing Gia the way I did, I was pretty sure that she was putting together the pieces.
“Hey, beautiful girlies and handsome fella!” Jodi called as she entered the backyard.
“Now there’s someone who would love to talk penises with you, Gia!” Carrie said, causing them both to let out a loud giggle.
“What so funny?” Jodi asked once she got closer.
“We were just talking about a penis,’” Gia blurted out, causing some of the other guests that were standing nearby to look over at us.
“Okay….I’m all ears!” Jodi smiled. I shook my head and walked away as their laughter filled the backyard.
I spent the rest of the afternoon trying my best to ignore the want I was feeling for Carrie in her short skirt and halter top, and I was doing a pretty good job of it until she got me alone inside.
