“It’s perfect. What about for you?”

She nodded. “But I’m a little afraid. I haven’t swam in a while and the last time I did, I nearly drowned.”

I took her hands in mine. “I promise you, Becca, I won’t let you go under.”

She grabbed my face and her lips were on mine once again. I gently laid her down on the couch, moving my lips to her neck. "Mason?" she whispered.

I lifted my head, staring down at her beneath me, trying to catch my breath. "I haven't been with anyone since my accident."

I bit my bottom lip and at that moment I was glad that she couldn't see the look on my face. Was I the only man that she had ever been with? I was instantly brought back to the very first night that we had slept together and that scared look that she had on her face. The same look that was on her face right now.

"I promise it will be okay," I gently whispered in her ear. Her warm, soft hands gripped the side of my face and she pulled my head down to hers as our tongues collided once again.

I picked her up and carried her into my bedroom before gently placing her down. She stood in front of me and lifted her arms, allowing me to remove her shirt with ease. I unhooked her bra and watched it drop to the floor. Placing my hands on her hips, I stood silently staring at her perfect body, remembering what it felt like to have my lips all over it. Our tongues began to clash as I lifted my shirt over my head and pulled her into me. She gently stroked my bare back and I could feel myself growing harder by the second. I undid her jeans and gave them a tug. She helped me out by pulling them down further and stepping out of them completely. I could feel her trembling as I laid her down on the bed. “Becca, don’t be scared. I promise you, it will be fine,” I whispered in her ear before placing a gentle kiss on her neck.

“I just have had my heart broken in half before and I’m afraid. Doing this for the first time in years and not being able to see…..it’s just scary for me both emotionally and physically. But I do trust you, Mason.”

“Why do you trust me, Becca?”

I turned on my side and pulled her close, feeling her heart beating a mile a minute against my chest. “I don’t know. There’s just something about your voice, your touch, that tells me you’re a caring, gentle person. It’s weird, but I can sense it inside of me almost like I’ve known you for years instead of just weeks.”

I closed my eyes and rested my lips on the top of her head. If she only knew….would she be more at ease or would she be even more afraid? “We don’t have to do anything, Becca. We can stay here just like this in each other’s arms for the rest of the night until you feel one hundred percent comfortable.”

She wrapped her arms tightly around me. “Thank you,” she whispered, placing her warm soft lips on my chest while breathing in deeply. “Your cologne?” She lifted her head and stared off into space as if she was deep in thought. It was the same cologne that I had worn for years. The same cologne that I had used when I had first met her. I was filled with both hope and dread that maybe she was putting it together. She placed her head back on my chest. “I like it,” she whispered.

Her lips trailed down my stomach as her fingers moved around, finally finding the button on my jeans. It was as if the scent of my cologne was all she needed to wash away her fear. Her hand reached under my boxers and began to stroke me, and I was instantly yearning to be inside of her. I pulled my jeans down some more, allowing her easier access. She moved her head further down until her tongue was sliding up and down my rock hard erection. I closed my eyes and ran my hands through her hair, basking in the familiarity of the moment as she wrapped her lips tightly around me.

  “Oh fuck Becca!” I shouted.

It felt so damn good as I stared down at her taking me further in her mouth. She looked like that same girl from years ago, the one that I had restored confidence in. Not the scared one that was lying on my bed, trembling just moments ago. She was my Becca; the one that I had fallen in love with. The one that had trusted me enough years ago to be her first and was now placing that same trust in me again. And I, in turn, would make sure that I didn’t let her down this time. She had made my body feel things that it had never felt before back then, the same way she was doing right now.

She moved up closer and whispered in my ear. “I’m ready to dive in completely, Mason. I’m ready to feel the water around me.” I pushed her hair from her face, more than willing to obey her wishes. I removed her underwear and stared at her beautiful naked body. I couldn’t resist placing tiny gentle kisses on her hips as my fingers moved in and out of her. “Mason, please. Don’t make me wait,” she begged, arching her back eagerly waiting in anticipation. She didn’t need to ask me twice. I removed my jeans and boxers.

“Becca are you on birth control?”

She reached for my face and kissed me hard. “Yes, now please don’t make me wait a second longer.” I stood over top of her and slowly eased myself into her as she let out a loud cry of pleasure. I had to stop and catch my breath for a second as all of the memories of being with her so long ago came flashing through my mind. She felt so good, like her body was made just for me. I leaned down and kissed her hard as I moved in and out of her, getting in a slow and steady rhythm with her own movements.

“Is this okay for you?” I whispered in her ear.

She closed her eyes and nodded, swallowing hard. Her hands moved up and down my back and I was hoping that she sensed the same familiarity as I did with each move that I made. My tongue found its way to her hardened nipple as her breathing was becoming heavier. I could feel her heart beating faster as her body began to tighten up around me. She arched her back and screamed my name as I continued moving in and out of her. I kissed her on the lips as she tried to catch her breath, but I wasn’t ready to let her just yet. I wanted to make up for all those years I had been without her. I turned her on her side so her back was pressing up against me as I entered her once again. My hands reached around her and cupped her breasts while my tongue cascaded her neck. I slid my fingers further down until I reached that spot between her legs, that spot that I knew could drive a woman crazy with one simple touch. I continued to move in and out of her as my fingers began to play with her, instantly causing her body to tremble.

“Oh my God, Mason!” she begged, but I wasn’t letting up. I wanted her to enjoy every single second of this.

She threw her head back into my chest, screaming loudly as her entire body contracted. I could feel it building up inside of me. Six long years of dreaming of this moment, yearning to feel her touch and be inside of her again. I couldn’t hold back any longer. I pulled her closer and with a few steady movements, I lost it completely inside of her. I wrapped my arms around her as we both tried to catch our breath.

“That was really great, Becca,” I said, kissing her on her shoulder. I looked down at her, noticing the tears rolling down her face. “Are you okay?”

She nodded. “I don’t know what my problem is. I’m just feeling so mixed up about all this right now. It’s just been a while for me since I felt this way. I forgot what it was like. And then there’s the whole mixing business with pleasure thing…..I mean, we’re working together on this case. I just don’t want it to get weird now between us with work. Not to mention if anyone finds out.”

I turned her around so she was facing me and tilted her chin up to me. “Hey, how are they gonna find out? Unless, of course, you go bragging to everyone about how great I am in bed.”

She let out a loud giggle that made me smile in return. “Your secret is safe with me.”

“Well, you can still brag to me,” I teased.

She laughed again and lifted her head, placing a gentle kiss on my cheek. “Thank you for making that so wonderful.” I pushed her hair from her face and kissed her on her head. She moved in closer and nuzzled into my chest while I rubbed her back until she fell asleep, just like I always did after we would make love. I was unable to take my eyes from her as she slept. I wondered who she was seeing in h
er dreams. Was she making love to Drew Bryant or Mason Boudreaux? I pulled her closer and watched her breathe. She was so beautiful. So perfect, and for the moment, she was mine once again.

I sat in Becca’s office as she went over the last of the questions that were going to be presented to me today at the Grand Jury hearing. I had talked to her almost every day in the two weeks that had passed and we had gone out three more times, but sitting here in her office with her and Frank we acted as if we hardly even knew each other.

“Well, I think Becca has properly raked you over the coals and prepared you for this well,” Frank teased.

“Yeah, she’s good.” I caught Becca’s cheeks begin to redden as she looked down at her desk. Frank looked over at her and smiled.

“She’s the best.” Yes, sir, she is. “Well, I’m going to get another cup of coffee before we head in. Care for one?” he asked. I shook my head. “What about you, Becca?”

  “Oh, no thanks, I’m good.”

“Okay, I’ll be back to get you in ten,” he said.

  “Sounds good.”

“So, are you going to wow that jury and get us those indictments?” Becca asked.

“If I do, do I get a reward?”

She bit her bottom lip and giggled. “Agent Boudreaux, are you bribing me?” she whispered.

  “Could be.”

“Well, let’s see what you get us and we’ll see about the reward.”

“Okay, sounds fair.” My eyes burned into her, focusing my attention on the neckline of her shirt and how it accented her cleavage perfectly. I had to look away. The last thing I wanted to do was walk into that courtroom with a total hard-on because I was thinking about Becca’s flawless body and having my lips all over it. “Will you be in the courtroom?”

“No, not unless I’m requested to be.”

  “Well, can I request you?”

“Now, why would a seasoned agent like yourself need me in the room with you?”

“So I can stare at your beautiful face the whole time.”

She leaned over her desk and whispered, “Have you forgotten about our mixing business with pleasure deal?”

  “No, I haven’t. Have you?”

She creased her forehead. “No, I haven’t.”

“Well then, can I suggest that you stop wearing that perfume that makes me crazy and that top that shows off that beautiful body of yours?” She let out a giggle. “Oh and while we’re at it, when you wear your hair up like that I can’t stop staring at that sexy neck. So, I do believe that you, Miss Keeton, are the one that is breaching the terms of our agreement.”

Her hair fell flawlessly around her shoulders and down her back as she reached behind her and removed her hair clip. “Is that better?” “Nope. No matter how hard you try, you will never not be sexy.”

I wanted to reach over her desk and kiss her warm, soft lips among other things that would totally break our business and pleasure agreement. I stood up and stared at her for a few seconds. She looked around the room, clearly still sensing my presence. “What are you doing?” she asked.

“Just memorizing your gorgeous face so I can think about it the whole time I’m in the courtroom.”

She let out a loud laugh and shook her head. “Silly boy, go find Frank and get us those indictments.”

“Congrats. I heard the Grand Jury handed down indictments on all sixteen charges,” Liz said as she smacked me on the head with the file folder in her hand. “Drinks with me and Nat to celebrate?”

I looked down at my desk.

“Well, I’d love to, if you don’t mind if Becca comes along.”

She took a seat opposite my desk. Shit, here we go! “I don’t mind at all. I told you before, I love Becca, but have you made any progress with what we had discussed previously?”

“Liz, you know I love you, but can you just butt out of this one?”

“So, I’m taking that as a ‘no’.” I looked at the computer screen, not wanting to respond to the question that she clearly already knew the answer to. “Okay, what time and where?” she finally relented.

  “You tell me.”

“Hmm….let me get back to you on that one. I’ll text you later.” She got up from her chair just as Agent Knox came walking into the office. “Agent Knox, sir, how are you?” Liz asked, standing at attention and removing the sarcasm that was normally second nature from her voice.

  “I’m doing well, Agent Diaz.”

She nodded and wasted no time making an exit.

I immediately stood up and extended my hand. “How are you, sir?”

“Well, that depends,” he responded as he took Liz’s now empty chair. “Have a seat please,” he said, trying to be as informal as possible. “You know it’s no secret that I want you for Johnson’s job.”

  “I’m aware of that, sir.”

“Well, I’m getting mixed stories through the channels. Do you want it or not?”

Talk about being put on the spot. “Well, to be honest, sir, I’m not sure. It’s a lot to think about. I mean, you should know first-hand; you were an undercover for well over fifteen years before you came into the office. ”

He raised his eyebrow and ran his hand over the side of his face. Crossing his leg and leaning back in his chair, he intertwined his fingers and rested them on top of his bald head as if he were deep in thought.

“I do know, very well, and you remind me so much of myself when I was your age, it’s scary. You have the same drive that I had, the same ability to take charge and remain cool in any situation. I listened to many of the wires that you have worn and I have to say, I was quite impressed with how you handled some of those situations.”

  “Thank you, sir.” I nodded.

“But the time to come out of the field is before you get burnt out. Don’t be like me and have nothing left in your personal life when you do finally decide to take your life back.” I furrowed my brows in confusion. “I’m fifty nine years old. I have an ex-wife who hates me. Two kids who are like complete strangers to me because I was never around to raise them, and three grandchildren who are even more foreign.” I looked away for a minute, not knowing what to say. Agent Knox was a hard ass and to hear him spilling his heart and soul out to me made me feel a little awkward.

“I know you’re still a young guy, but don’t let this job dictate how you’re going to live the rest of your life. This is a great opportunity for you and I think you would be a natural at it because you know everything that the people working under you are going through. Take time to think about it. Does a month sound fair?”

I nodded. “Yes sir, very fair.”

I stood up at the same time as he did and shook his hand once again before he exited. I took a deep breath, knowing I was going to have a lot to think about throughout this next month. I was broken from my trance when I saw Becca’s name flashing on the caller ID. If there was one person that could be the determining factor in this whole decision making process, it was the girl on the other end of that phone.

Becca and I walked into the restaurant and I immediately spotted Liz and Natalie sitting in the bar area. I took Becca’s hand and led her over.

“Hey Becca! How are you!?” Liz said in an overly friendly voice that was so unusual for her.

“Hi, Liz. How have you been?” Becca asked.

“Uh, okay I guess,” she replied, sounding more like herself. Natalie stood up, waiting for an introduction. “Becca, this is Natalie, my partner, fiancé, girlfriend, take your pick.”

Natalie took Becca’s hand in hers and shook it. “It’s so nice to meet you, Becca,” Natalie said.

“And you as well.” Becca smiled. I pulled out the bar stool for Becca and she sat down, immediately jumping into conversation with Natalie. She was so enthralled by Natalie’s job as a social worker and the time that she spent volunteering at the women’s shelters that I had to ask her three times what she wanted to drink before she finally answered.

“Well, it looks like Natalie’s trying
to steal away your girlfriend,” Liz teased.

  “Not a chance,” I said.

“So what did Knox want today?” Liz asked as the two of us started up our own conversation while Becca and Natalie continued theirs.

“To talk about that promotion.” I took a sip of my beer and looked straight ahead.

“And? What are you going to do?”

“I got a month to decide.”

Liz nodded and looked over at Becca. “Or does she have a month to decide?” she asked, raising her eyebrow at me.

“Liz, don’t start up with that again.”

She held her hand up in defense. “I’m not. Just thinking out loud.”

  “Well, quit thinking, okay?”

I looked over at Becca. She was unable to wipe the smile from her face and every now and then I would hear that beautiful laugh of hers come from deep within. Liz was right in her assumption once again. This decision was going to be solely based on Becca. I knew I was going to have to tell her the truth by the time the month was up. If she would be able to accept it and want a life together as badly as I did, then I would take that job in a heartbeat. I just wanted her to realize who I was without me telling her. I wanted her to feel that connection to me, the same one we had all those years ago, even though I knew that once she did I could lose her forever.

“Oh Becca, if you would do it, that would be so awesome!” Natalie exclaimed. I stood up and wrapped my arm around Becca’s waist.

  “Do what?” I asked.

“I would love to have Becca be a guest speaker at one of our meetings for women of domestic violence. If these women could see how much she has achieved without her eyesight then maybe it would empower them to become stronger as well.”

“Well, ummm…..that sounds like a great idea, but…..” Becca said.

  “But what?” I asked.

“Well, I’m just a little nervous about it.”

“Becca, you have nothing at all to be nervous about. You’ll do fine,” I said.

Natalie shook her head and her smile became wider. Becca took a deep breath like she was deep in thought. “Well, I suppose I could.”
